SEO checklist: short course

Written by

Of course, this is not cheap: hiring a professional will require costs. If you work alone, such expenses can be unjustified. Fortunately, nothing prevents you from doing this yourself – especially if you are confident in using a computer.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

Google Analytics is the starting point: GA allows you to track visitor activity on your site. Tip: If your site is running WordPress, use the Google Site Kit plugin – it makes it much easier to set up.
Google Search Console is a tool that works in conjunction with GA. Just let the Google Site Kit plugin for WordPress set up your GSC profile and wait for email notifications if you need to fix something. The GSC ensures Google sees all of your site’s content and doesn’t miss pages due to any errors.
SEO metrics analysis tools (various) – GA and GSC are excellent (and free!) Tools, but sometimes their capabilities are not enough for those who take their site seriously. Here are some other tools I use:
Auditzy – advanced analysis of Core Web Vitals indicators for individual pages.
Nozzle is an incredibly powerful tool for tracking positions in the issue.
OPTIMIZATION

Google Business Profile (GBP). The company’s Google Profile (GBP) is critical to SEO, as it significantly increases visibility in local search. Thanks to the creation of a detailed and confirmed company card, which is displayed directly in search and on Google maps, a business can get into the so-called “local pack” – a block of three companies, shown at the top of the search results with reference to location. This direct presence has a huge advantage: users immediately see important information (address, hours of operation, phone, site, reviews), and this data is the key ranking factors in the local SEO. The optimized GBP profile not only improves positions in organic distribution, signaling Google about relevance and territorial proximity, but also stimulates direct interaction with customers (calls, site clicks, route building). This makes GBP an indispensable tool for attracting local customers and increasing the flow of visitors or the number of applications for services. Meta data – these elements, in particular meta titles and meta descriptions, are critical to SEO, although not direct ranking factors in the same sense as content quality or backlinks. Although search engines (such as Google) can sometimes rewrite meta-descriptions, this data serves as a kind of “organic advertising text” for your site in search results. A well-crafted meta-title is a brief, keyword-rich summary that influences a user’s decision to click on a link. Similarly, an attractive meta-description encourages users to choose exactly your result rather than competitors’ suggestions, as it gives an accurate idea of the page’s content and sometimes contains a call to action. Optimizing this meta-data directly affects the clickability rate (CTR), which is the most important indirect signal for ranking. A high CTR signals to search engines that the page is relevant and useful to users, potentially leading to improved positions in the output. In addition to snippets in search results, other meta-tags, such as the robots meta-tag (which controls scanning and indexing) and meta-tags for social networks (which determine the type of content when publishing links), also play an important role in the effectiveness of SEO and the visibility of the site on the Internet.

Backlinks are a fundamental element of SEO, a kind of “trust voice” that one site gives to another. When an authoritative and thematically close resource links to your content, it serves as a signal to search engines (like Google) that your page is trustworthy, authoritative and valuable. This is based on Google’s original PageRank algorithm, which took into account the number and quality of links leading to the page. Despite the fact that the algorithm has undergone changes, high-quality backlinks remain the most important ranking factor, significantly affecting the overall authority and reliability of the site. They not only help search engines find and index your content more efficiently, but also attract referral traffic, increase brand awareness, and ultimately improve search positions and organic traffic growth.
Keywords are the basis of SEO, as they serve as a link between what users are looking for and the content you offer. By carefully analyzing keywords, companies can identify specific words and phrases that their target audience uses when searching for goods, services or information on the Internet. The natural integration of these relevant keywords into the content of the site.

Competitors – Competitive analysis is paramount to SEO as it provides valuable insight into what is (and isn’t) working for other players in your industry. By scrutinizing the SEO strategies of market leaders – including their target keywords, content subject matter, back-link profiles, technical aspects of SEO, and user experience (UX) – you can find opportunities to stay ahead of them. These data allow you to identify undeveloped niches of keywords and gaps in content, find promising sites for link building, and even discover technical vulnerabilities on competitors’ sites that can be used to your advantage. Ultimately, competitor analysis helps you adjust your SEO strategy, prioritize and efficiently allocate resources to gain an advantage in search results, attract more target traffic, and achieve business goals.

Structured data – Often referred to as Schema markup, it is critical to SEO as it gives search engines clear clues as to the meaning and context of your site’s content. Although this is not a direct ranking factor, markup significantly improves the display of content in search results, allowing you to form “rich results” – for example, with a rating (asterisks), product prices, FAQ blocks or information about events directly in search results. Such attractive and informative snippets stand out against the general background, which leads to an increase in the clickability rate (CTR). By helping search engines understand content more deeply and classify it accurately, structured data also increases the overall relevance of pages to specific user requests. This contributes to better visibility and improved user experience, which is especially important in the context of the evolution of search towards entity-based search and the use of artificial intelligence technologies.
Internal Relink – The most important, but often underestimated aspect of SEO, which plays a key role for both user convenience and search engine optimization. Strategically placed internal links link thematically close pages of your site, helping search engines find new content, understand the structure of the resource and assess the relative importance of individual pages. By transferring “link weight” (or PageRank) from strong, authoritative pages to weaker or newer ones, internal relining facilitates the distribution of ranking potential throughout the site, thereby improving the SEO performance of less visible content. In addition, a well-built internal linking strategy improves navigation by encouraging visitors to explore more pages of the site. This helps to reduce the failure rate and increase the time spent on the site – factors that positively affect positions in search results. Basically, internal links create a logical structure for both users and search robots, which ultimately contributes to better indexing, position growth and increased audience engagement.

LLM/AI

Google Overviews (formerly SGE – Search Generative Experience) are AI-based search functions that play an increasingly important role in SEO. They dramatically change the format of user interaction with search results, providing artificial intelligence-generated summaries at the very top of the SERP – often above traditional organic results. Although this can lead to so-called zero-click searches, where the user finds the answer directly in the summary, such features also open up new opportunities to increase brand awareness. If your content is mentioned as a source in an AI summary, it strengthens the brand’s reputation as an authoritative and reliable resource (even without going directly to the site), which in the future can lead to an increase in the number of direct searches or increased recognition. Therefore, optimization for Google Overviews requires a strategic shift in focus to creating comprehensive, authoritative, well-structured and easy-to-read content that provides direct answers to user requests. This makes it more likely that Google’s AI will select and display your information.
The Google Knowledge Panel is a critical SEO element that provides a visible and systematic display of information about an object (company, person or organization) directly on the search results page (SERP). Typically placed on the right side of the screen on desktops or at the top on mobile devices, these panels instantly provide users with key information: description, images, contact details, links to social media profiles and feedback. Such a profitable placement significantly increases the visibility and credibility of the brand, acting as a kind of “seal of approval” from Google, which inspires confidence among potential customers. Providing quick answers and rich.

Mentions – even if they are not accompanied by a direct link, mentions play an increasingly important role in SEO, as they serve as weighty signals of brand authority, reliability and relevance for search engines. Google’s algorithms are perfect enough to understand: frequent discussion of the brand on various online platforms (on social networks, news publications, blogs and forums) testifies to the true recognition and influence of the brand in its industry. Such references form what are often called “implied links”: if a brand is talked about, then it is probably trustworthy. This natural interest expands the brand’s digital presence, helps Google link it to specific objects in the Knowledge Graph, and ultimately affects ranking. The fact that a brand is respected and talked about serves as a key indicator of expertise, experience, credibility and reliability (E-E-A-T concept).
